Where are they now? Carol Vadnais
The Canadiens didn’t pile up 100 years of history without the blood, sweat and tears of the over 750 players to have ever worn the uniform. From the likes of Donald Audette to Zarley Zalapski, there are former Habs scattered all over the world. Although many hardcore Canadiens fans can rattle off the career accomplishments of hundreds of their old heroes, the question remains: what are these guys up to today? On the hot seat today: Carol Vadnais

Where are you living now?
I live in l’Île Paton, in Laval.

What do you do these days?
I’m a commercial and industrial real estate agent in Laval.

How often do you strap on the skates these days?
I actually never skate at all anymore.  I started playing with a couple of my buddies a year or two ago, but I haven’t played since then.

Do you keep in touch with any of your former teammates?
I’m still good friends with Serge Savard, Rejean Houle, all of those guys.  Serge will invite me to his place every once in a while.

How many Canadiens games do you watch in a season?
I watch quite a few.

When was the last time you came to the Bell Centre for a game?
I go to the Bell Centre probably three or four times a season. One of my friends is the jeweler for the team and he brings me to games every so often.  To be honest, I actually prefer to watch at home with a nice cigar.

Who is your favorite player on the current roster?
My grandson loves Kovalev…so I would have said him last year.  I’ve also always liked the way Maxim Lapierre plays.  He’s such a hard-worker and he plays with a lot of intensity.

What is your favorite piece of Canadiens memorabilia that you own?
I have my Stanley Cup and my Prince of Wales Trophy from my days with the team.  Back then, we didn’t really keep anything.  It wasn’t common to keep our jerseys or sticks as souvenirs.  No one really thought there was any reason to hold onto pieces of our old equipment or anything like that.  I did try to keep a few of the jerseys from the All-Star games I played in, but the coaches always took them back after the games.  Today, they get that stuff framed for them…we weren’t even allowed to keep them.

Where do you keep your Stanley Cup rings?
I’ve had the ring I won with the Canadiens on my pinky finger for 40 years.  I never take it off.  I won one with Boston as well, but I don’t wear it – it’s too big.  I prefer the one from the 1968 Cup in Montreal.
