Grand moments

March 14th, 1929
On March 14, 1929, goaltender George Hainsworth continued his remarkable domination of NHL forwards, blanking the Montreal Maroons 1-0 at the Forum. The shutout was his 22nd of the season, an all-time record that has never been challenged and a feat made all the more impressive by the fact that it was set over the course of a 44-game season.

In his career year, one that saw him capture a third straight V├ęzina Trophy, Hainsworth reeled off four straight shutouts between February 26 and March 7, refusing to allow a single puck across the goal line for 343 minutes, still a team record and the second-longest streak in NHL history.

Between the pipes for every minute of the 1928-29 schedule, Hainsworth finished the season with a miniscule 0.92 goals-against average, allowing two or fewer goals in 37 of his 44 appearances.
