NO. 5 RETIRED FOREVER
On March 11, 2006, 75-year-old Bernard “Boom Boom” Geoffrion passes away just a few hours before the Canadiens are due to retire his No. 5. In one of the most emotionally-charged ceremonies in hockey history, Geoffrion’s banner, adorned with a black band, is raised to the Bell Centre rafters alongside that of his father-in-law, the legendary
Howie Morenz.
