The Atlanta Thrashers arrived in the NHL in 1999-2000, marking the league’s return to the Georgia capital after the Flames left for Calgary in 1980. It wasn’t until the Thrashers’ seventh season in 2006-07 that the team made its first playoff appearance.

The Canadiens and Thrashers first met at the Bell Centre on November 13, 1999, with the Canadiens earning a 4-2 win.

Montreal and Atlanta have never faced off in the postseason.

The Canadiens first met the Flames on November 25, 1980 at the Forum, a game that ended in a 5-4 loss.

Montreal and Calgary, Stanley Cup champions in 1989, have met twice in the playoffs, and both were in the Stanley Cup Final. The Canadiens emerged victorious in five games in 1986 while the Flames edged Montreal in six games in 1989.
