The Minnesota Wild joined the NHL in 2000-01, marking hockey’s return to the twin cities after the North Stars left for Dallas in 1993. The first two years were rough on the new franchise, as the team finished both seasons near the bottom of the Western Conference standings.
The first matchup between the Canadiens and the Wild took place on October 24, 2000 at the Bell Centre, and ended in a 2-2 draw.
Montreal and Minnesota, the Northwest Division champions in 2008, have never met in the playoffs.
