The Philadelphia Flyers arrived with the NHL’s first wave of expansion in 1967-68. Unlike most new franchises, the Flyers enjoyed success in their debut season, posting a 31-32-11 record en route to claiming the West Division title.
The first matchup between the Canadiens and Flyers took place on November 4, 1967 at the Forum. The Habs lost the game 4-1.
Montreal and Philadelphia, who won the Stanley Cup in 1974 and 1975 when the “Broad Street Bullies” were ruling the league, have met six times in the playoffs. The Canadiens came out on top on three occasions, including the Stanley Cup Finals in 1976.
