The Tampa Bay Lightning joined the NHL in 1992-93 and, like most expansion clubs, endured tough times in its freshman season, posting a 23-54-7 record.
The Canadiens and Lightning first met on October 28, 1992 in Montreal, in a 4-3 win for the home team. The Habs headed down to the Sunshine State for the first time on March 3, 1993, falling 3-1.
Montreal and Tampa Bay’s lone playoff meeting came back in 2003-04. The Lightning beat the Canadiens 4-0 in their Eastern Conference Semifinal matchup, just a few weeks before claiming their first and only Stanley Cup.
