The Vancouver Canucks arrived in the NHL in 1970-71 and, as is often the case with new franchises, struggled to find success, going 24-26-8 in their debut season.

A pair of those losses came courtesy of the Canadiens, who won 6-3 in the first-ever meeting between the two teams on October 31, 1970 at the Forum, and beat them 4-3 in the Habs’ first visit to Vancouver on December 18, 1970.

The Canadiens and Canucks, the latter Stanley Cup finalists in 1981-82 and 1993-94, have met just once in the playoffs. In 1975, Montreal eliminated Vancouver from the postseason in five games in the quarterfinals.
