William McCreary had already been a member of the New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings before landing in Montreal in 1962. He was acquired from the AHL’s Springfield franchise in exchange for Bob McCammon, Andre Tardiff and Norm Waslowski. McCreary played 14 games with the Habs during their 1962-63 campaign, recording two goals and three assists. He was traded to the St. Louis Blues on Jun. 14, 1967 in exchange for Claude Cardin and Phil Obendorf. McCreary went on to play the last four seasons of his career for the Blues.
