Robert Dawes began his career as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 1948-49 and represented in the All-Star Game the following season. He came to the Canadiens on loan from the American Hockey League’s Cincinnati Mohawks on Feb. 13, 1951 in exchange for Paul Masnick. Dawes played 16 games for the Habs during their 1950-51 campaign, recording five assists before being sidelined by a leg injury on Apr. 21, 1951 that effectively ended his NHL career.
