Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, center Daniel Daoust hoisted the Memorial Cup as a member of the QMJHL’s Cornwall Royals in 1979-80. Never drafted into the NHL, he signed a contract as a free agent with the Canadiens on Mar. 9, 1981. Daoust played four games with the Habs during their 1982-83 campaign, recording one assist and four penalty minutes. He was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 17, 1982 in exchange for their third-round pick in the 1984 draft. Daoust finished his season with 18 goals and 33 assists in 48 games, earning himself a place on the NHL rookie all-star team. He spent another seven seasons with the Maple Leafs before leaving the league in 1989-90.
