Hailing from Fribourg, Switzerland, David Aebischer was the Colorado Avalanche’s sixth-round pick and the 161st overall selection at the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. Winner of the Stanley Cup as Patrick Roy’s backup in 2000-01, Aebischer was traded to the Canadiens on Mar. 8, 2006 in exchange for José Théodore. He played seven games for the Habs to help them close out their season, and another 32 in the following campaign as part of a goaltending duo that included Cristobal Huet. Aebischer signed as a free agent with the Phoenix Coyotes on Jul. 19, 2007, playing his last game in the NHL in 2007-08.
