Hailing from Atlanta Georgia, Éric Chouinard was the Canadiens first-round pick and the 16th overall selection at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Chouinard made his debut with the Habs on Jan. 16, 2001, against the Hurricanes, recording his first point in the league that same game. He went on to play 12 more games with the Canadiens during their 2000-01 campaign, adding one goal and two assists to his stats. The Canadiens traded Chouinard to the Philadelphia Flyers on Jan. 29, 2003 in exchange for their second-round draft pick in 2003 (Maxim Lapierre). He also enjoyed a stint with the Minnesota Wild before returning to the Flyers organization. His father Guy played in the NHL for 10 seasons.
