Originally from Chicoutimi, Quebec, Germain Gagnon’s rights were sold to the Canadiens by Vancouver on Nov. 3, 1970. He played four games with the Canadiens during their 1971-72 campaign, recording no points. Gagnon was traded to the New York Islanders on Aug. 18, 1972 in return for their 1973 second-round draft pick (Glen Goldup) as well as financial compensation. The deal also sent Denis Dejordy, Glenn Resch and Alex Campbell to New York. Gagnon also played for the Chicago Blackhawks and the Kansas City Scouts over the course of his five-year NHL career.
