Hailing from Dalhousie, New Brunswick, Gordie Dwyer was the Canadiens sixth-round pick and the 152nd overall selection at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Traded to Tampa Bay on Nov. 26, 1999, in exchange for Mike McBain, he also spent time within the New York Rangers organization before the Canadiens reclaimed him off waivers on Feb. 21, 2003. Dwyer played 11 games over that season and the next two for the Habs – his last in the NHL. Dwyer signed as a free agent with the Hurricanes on Aug. 11, 2004, but instead continued his career in the American Hockey League and Europe before announcing his retirement in 2008.
