Herb Cain made his NHL debut with the Montreal Maroons in 1934 following a short contractual period with the Canadiens. After spending four seasons with the Maroons, Cain’s rights were sold to the Habs on Sept. 14, 1938. He played 48 games with the Canadiens in their 1938-39 campaign, during which he recorded 13 goals and 14 assists. Cain was traded to the Boston Bruins on Nov. 1, 1939, in exchange for Charlie Sands.
A two-time Stanley Cup winner, Cain remains the only scoring champion in the history of the NHL, who is still eligible, who has not been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He also holds the distinction for being the last active skater to play for the Maroons. Cain played his last season in the NHL in 1945-46.
