Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Ivan Irwin’s rights were sold to the Canadiens by the American Hockey League’s Cincinnati Mowhawks on Oct. 3, 1951. He played four games with the Habs during their 1952-53 season, recording one assist in that time. He was traded to the New York Rangers on Aug. 8, 1953 in return for Ed Slowinski and Pete Babando, where he would go on to play for the next four seasons.
