Hailing from Douro, Ontario, defensive-minded forward Joseph Coughlin came to the Canadiens on loan from the Quebec Bulldogs on Feb. 13, 1920. He played three games with the Habs during their 1919-20 season, recording no points. On Nov. 27, 1920, he was traded to Hamilton, along with Goldie Prodger, Joe Matte and Billy Coutu for the 1920-21 season, in exchange for Harry Mummery, Jack McDonald and Dave Ritchie.
