Hailing from Dearborn, Michigan, right-winger Jim Cummins was the New York Rangers’ fourth-round pick and the 67th overall selection at the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in March of 1992 as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. The gritty forward would also enjoy stints with the Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Chicago Blackhawks and Phoenix Coyotes. He was traded to the Canadiens by the Coyotes on Jun. 26, 1999, in exchange for the New York Rangers’ sixth-round pick in the 1999 draft. Cummins played 47 games for the Habs in their 1999-00 campaign, during which he recorded three goals and five assists. The following season he skated for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, eventually going to play for the New York Islanders and the Colorado Avalanche until 2003-04.
