Originally from Brick, New Jersey, Jim Dowd was the Devils eighth-round pick and the 149th overall selection at the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in March of 1992, and would win the Stanley Cup three years later during the lockout-shortened 1994-95 season. A versatile center and face off specialist, Dowd had already played for six different teams before being acquired by the Canadiens from Minnesota on Mar. 4, in return for a fourth-round pick in 2004. Dowd played 25 games with the Habs to close out that season. Following the 2004-05 lockout, he continued moved between the Blackhawks, the Avalanche and the Devils before finishing his career with the Flyers – the 10th NHL team he would play for. Only Mike Sillinger with 12, played for more teams over the course of his NHL career.
