Hailing from Myjav, Czechoslovakia, Jozef Balej was the Canadiens third-round pick and the 78th overall selection at the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut on Jan. 23, 2004 against the New Jersey Devils. He went on to play three other games with the Habs, recording no points. He was traded to the New York Rangers on Mar. 2, 2004 along with a second-round draft pick (Bruce Graham) in exchange for Alex Kovalev. He also played for the Vancouver Canucks during his time in the NHL.
