Hailing from Kirkland Lake, Ontario, defenseman Larry Hillman was already a 14-year veteran of the NHL when he was acquired by the Canadiens from Pittsburgh in exchange for Jean-Guy Lagacé and financial compensation on Nov. 22, 1968. He won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Detroit Red Wings in 1954-55 and then with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1963-64 and 1966-67. Hillman played in 26 games with the Habs during their 1968-69 campaign, recording five assists and winning yet another Stanley Cup. Hillman was claimed by the Philadelphia Flyers as part of the intra-league draft on Jun. 11, 1969. He also enjoyed stints with the Boston Bruins, Minnesota North Stars, Los Angeles Kings and Buffalo Sabres before retiring from the league in 1972-73 after a 19-season NHL career.
