Larry Trader was the Detroit Red Wings’ fifth-round pick and the 86th overall selection at the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in 1982-83 before moving on to play with the St. Louis Blues in August of 1986. He was traded to the Canadiens on Oct. 13, 1987, along with the Blues’ third-round pick in 1989 (Pierre Sévigny) in exchange for Gaston Gingras and the Canadiens’ third-round pick in 1989 (later traded to Winnipeg who selected Kris Draper). Trader played 30 games with the Habs during their 1987-88 campaign, recording two goals and four assists. He finished his career with the Hartford Whalers in 1988-89 after signing as a free agent with the organization in August of 1988.
