Rick Meagher signed as a free agent with the Canadiens on Jun. 27, 1977. He played two games with the Habs during their 1979-80 campaign, recording no points. He was traded to the Hartford Whalers on Jun. 5, 1980, along with the Canadiens’ 1981 third-round (Paul Macdermid) and fifth-round (Dan Bourbonnais) draft picks in exchange for Hartford’s third-round (Dieter Hegen) and fifth-round (Steve Rooney) picks in the same draft. Meagher also played for the New Jersey Devils and the St. Louis Blues where he was named team captain and also won the Frank Selke Trophy in 1989-90.
