Ron Tugnutt was the Quebec Nordiques fourth-round pick and the 81st overall selection at the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. He made his debut in the league in 1987-88 and went on to play his first five seasons in the NHL for the Quebec City franchise. After stints in Edmonton and Anaheim, the Canadiens picked him up in exchange for Stephan Lebeau to play backup for Patrick Roy. He played 16 games during his year-and-a-half spent with the Canadiens, posting a record of 3-7-2.

He signed as a free agent with the Capitals on Sept. 25, 1995, without ever going on to actually play for the team. Tugnutt also played for the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets and Dallas Stars during his time in the NHL. In 1998-99 he took part in the league’s All-Star Game.
