Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, left-winger Sylvain Blouin was the New York Rangers’ fourth-round pick and the 104th overall selection at the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Rangers in November of 1996. Over the course of his career, Blouin enjoyed two separate stints with the Canadiens. He was originally traded to the Habs by the Rangers on Jun. 30, 1999 in exchange for Peter Popovic, playing five games for the team during their 1998-99 campaign. Claimed off waivers by the Wild on Sept. 29, 2000, Blouin spent three seasons in Minnesota, before being traded back to the Canadiens on Oct. 21, 2002 in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2003. He played 17 more games with the Habs – his last in the NHL – that season, recording 43 penalty minutes. He was traded to the Vancouver Canucks on Mar. 9, 2004 in exchange for Rene Vydarney. Blouin continued his career in the Minors until 2007-08.
