Hailing from Grand Rapids, Minnesota, defenseman, Bill Baker was the Canadiens’ third-round pick and the 54th overall selection at the 1976 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut against the New York Islanders on Oct. 28, 1983. Baker went on to play another 10 games with the Habs before being traded to Colorado on Mar. 10, 1981 in exchange for the Rockies’ third-round pick in 1983 (Daniel Letendre). He also played for St. Louis Blues and the New York Rangers during his time in the NHL. Prior to his professional career, Baker helped the U.S. win the gold medal at the Lake Placid Olympic Games in what would come to be known as the “Miracle on Ice”.
